Happy Father's Day!
As far as Dad's go.... I'm the luckiest girl in the world. Technically, I have three Dad's. Confused yet? I have a biological father, who I don't have a relationship with, by my own choice. My mom remarried when I was four, to the man I call Dad. They divorced when I was sixteen and my mom remarried two years later to my step-dad, Dave. My family is kinda complicated but they're mine.
I am a daddy's girl. There's no two ways about it. He may not be my biological father but I couldn't love him anymore. He is and will always be my dad. Blood doesn't make you a father. He raised me and my brother as his own. When he and my mom divorced, he didn't have to stick around and be in our lives but he did. He raised us, took care of us, made sure we had everything we needed and loved us.... Unconditionally. He was the father he didn't have to be. He never once said anything bad about my biological father. He encouraged me to have a relationship with him. But I didn't want that. I had the father-daughter relationship I wanted with him. We only see each other about one or two times a year but I cherish the time we do get together.
There once was a time when Dave and I didn't get along. That seems a lifetime ago. Dave and I are really close now. I'm the first of the kids to call him on holidays and birthdays. I really enjoy his company. I can always count on him to give me honest, good advice. I don’t always take it but I always listen. Three years ago, I had the scare of my life when he had a heart attack. He had to have surgery and he's doing good now.
I'm lucky. I get not one but two amazing Dad's that I adore. So to my two wonderful Dad's.... Happy Father's Day! I love you more than words can say.
